Today’s  Ariel’s Arcs involves some sci-fi, some mystery, and one of my favorite AI characters, Murderbot!

The latest installment of the Murderbot Diaries comes out this month– Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells is the sixth book in the series.  If you’ve never read Murderbot and six books seems a bit intimidating, be assured these books are short and quick! With only one of the six as a full-length novel (number 5- Network Effect), this series of mostly-novellas introduce readers to a snarky, socially awkward robot in short adventures! I highly recommend these books to anyone who enjoys a story about artificial intelligence as well as  awkward and sarcastic humor.

Fugitive Telemetry is exactly what I expected it would be from reading the previous 5 books. It doesn’t necessarily bring any breakthroughs or anything astonishingly new, but it feels like a comfort to settle down into this adventure and hear more about Murderbot’s awkward yet fun misadventures. This particular book is a whodunit, where Murderbot must solve a mystery with the help of human and nonhuman individuals. The classic humor I love is there, as well as the relatable social awkwardness. The character of Murderbot and the side characters continue on from the other books, creating a cohesiveness between the various Murderbot Diaries. If you’ve read the other books and enjoyed them, then this book is a must for you.

Thank you so much to Macmillan-Tor/Forge and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.

Final Rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.
